In the heart of Michigan’s cherry country lies a rustic store bursting with all things cherry. The Cherry Republic store, located in the quaint village of Glen Arbor, welcomes visitors from all over the world each summer. The Northwest Lower Peninsula is a special place in Michigan; pure nature dotted with picturesque towns and beaches. Only here could a store like this thrive. Whether you’re in the mood for a snack, cold drink, or unique souvenir to take home, Cherry Republic has you covered.
Original store located in quaint Glen Arbor. Bob Sutherland began in 1989 making and selling t-shirts and over-sized oatmeal and cherry cookies now known as Boomchunkas. Thirty years later, Cherry Republic crafts roughly 200 different items derived from the humble cherry. From classic chocolate covered cherries to summer sausage and even lip balm, they have you covered. Thirsty? You’ll also find cherry cola, wine, and their new brewery is ramping up production.
Cherry Republic has long been a favorite place for me to order gifts. Aside from the uniqueness and Made in Michigan pride, each gift box is packed with pine cones and birch bark for that Up North feel. In recent years, the Cherry Republic has expanded to include five retail shops around the state.
We are hitting Michigan next year and I had to add this to our itinerary! So cool!
