At the recent Disney Social Media Moms Celebration I enjoyed a presentation by producer Kristin Burr about this summer’s new film, Christopher Robin. The preview we watched instantly struck a chord with myself and many other attendees. In the upcoming film, we find an adult Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) struggling with the unsatisfying demands of a management job asking him to do the impossible. The situation mirrors reality for many of us: work, stress, the demands of adult life in general. Immediately we see his life is not as care free and fun as the classic stories we grew up with; he is now one of us.

When you grow up, do you really leave your childhood behind?

The Hundred Acre Wood was a place where Christopher Robin imagined visiting his stuffed animal friends and had many adventures. In the new movie, the tables are turned. His friends have become lost and Winnie the Pooh has set out to find them. With his classic dry wit and humor, Pooh finds Christopher Robin out in the real world and asks him to join in search. All our favorite characters come to life in the new film; Tigger, Eeyore, Kanga and Roo, and Rabbit. Christopher even finds himself in battle with the infamous Heffalump. What will Christopher Robin find when he joins his pals once again? Is there still a bit of childhood dreams left in him? In all of us?

The movie was shot on location in Suffolk, England near the Milne estate to bring the Hundred Acre Wood as close as possible to the place which inspired the original stories. The stuffed animal characters are rendered in very lifelike 3D and have the look of 20 years of use to them. Ewan McGregor takes the lead as Christopher Robin and Bronte Carmichael as his daughter Madeline. Long time Disney voice actor Jim Cummings returns as Winnie the Pooh. Brad Garrett is a great choice for the voice of Eeyore. The film is directed by Marc Forster, produced by Brigham Taylor and Kristin Burr. Christopher Robin debuts in theaters August 3rd, 2018.
