Recycle eclipse glasses
Millions of Americans watched the first total solar eclipse in nearly a century this week and now there are millions of those oh so stylish protective shades lying around. While some may keep them for souvenirs, many are wondering where to recycle eclipse glasses. Good news! Astronomers Without Borders, a non-profit company, is ready to recycle eclipse glasses so people in other parts of the world can safely experience the event. For example, used glasses will be sent to schools in South America and Asia when eclipses cross those continents in 2019.
So, what to do with those glasses? First of all, you may want to stash a few pairs away for our next total solar eclipse which will cross from Texas to Ohio in 2024. The rest you can donate to Astronomers Without Borders. Currently they are setting up partnerships with companies and businesses to be drop off centers. You can check back here for more information or sign up for their newsletter. You can also take the initiative to help collect eclipse glasses and send them to the address below. This is a good opportunity to get involved with a local school, library, or your workplace.
